February 13, 2012 – In a surprising new uprising, once dominant social media mega giant, Myspace reporting that it has gained 1 million new users within the past month.
Myspace has been in Facebook’s shadow as Facebook surpassed the social media giant a few years ago. Myspace has been sold twice since 2005; Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. paid $580 million for it in 2005 and now a team of investors, most notably pop star/actor Timberlake, bought out Myspace in June for the fire-sale price of $35 million.
Myspace’s new rise in awarness and users stems to the fact that Myspace is no longer trying to contend with Facebook, but rather improving the music experience on its site.
Myspace CEO commented, “Myspace is building meaningful social entertainment experience around content, where consumers can share and discover the music they love,” Vanderhook said. “Consumers are getting excited about Myspace again — a testament to a great music product.”
